October is School Library Month across Canada. During the month we will host several guest readers. James Aylward will be at our school on Monday, October 7. On October 28, National School Library Day, Superintendent Cynthia Fleet will join us for the early part of the morning.
Stay tuned for updates on other guest readers.
In celebration of School Library Month and Literacy, there are two projects that will unfold over the next couple months. We are going to invite students to donate a gently used book that will be given to the PEI Literacy Alliance to support their books to the Food Bank program. With our large population we should be able to collect lots of books that will ultimately help those in need. For a year now the Literacy Alliance has encouraged book donations that are then shared with the food bank. When a family uses the food bank they are encouraged to pick up a book as well. This program has proven very popular and successful. Let’s see what our school can contribute. A drop  off spot for the books will be set up in the lobby. More details to follow.
A second project will  involve a display with photos of every child with a book they love. This will be housed in the front area of the school.
